Although this alot better and more authentic then taco ell or taco john they are lacking seasoning my grandma and aunts makes everything better but I might be judging to harshly I do come from a hispanic background so I know what good mexican food taste like very nice large portions though everything just might need a little more salt and the salsa needs to be hotter

One star for the margarita... Pretty difficult to screw that one up! The fajitas were absolutely terrible! Order to go... No taco shells, no plastic ware... Won't be back again... EVER!!

The food was very good, and portions not to big, not too small. Taste was better than I had expected in central Wisconsin. Could have used a bit more spice, but again I was in central Wisconsin. The service was quick and friendly. Prices were reasonable. Should I be in the area again (I'm from Chicago), craving Mexican food, I would definitely go again.

I was visiting the area and found this place on yelp. I was very pleasantly surprised that their food was above average for Mexican cuisine in Wisconsin. Their retried beans were quite tasty and authentic. Good flavor on all their dishes we tried. It's definitely worth trying I recommend it.

This is on the end of a strip mall. It's clean and newer looking on the inside with plenty of colors. Staff was friendly. Service was quick. I had the ground beef burrito lunch special. Plenty of food if you eat the chips and salsa. The tortilla had only beef on the inside and the rest of the ingredients were on top for some reason which I have see just once before. It came with rice and beans. It was good but not authentic tasting. It's a nice place to go for Mexican if your in the area. I can't complain about anything here.

On our most recent visit, we waited and waited and waited for our food, and then got the bill before our food. It was still good, but would have been nice to not have been forgotten about, ya know what I'm sayin'?

The good: - four stars to the Mexicans that survive in this cold. - the place is clean - service is prompt and friendly - reasonable price - the food is decently good.

Been going here for years. Better than most cheap Mexican restaurants In the same vein. El Mezcal is awesome and a local hit.

There are very few good places to eat in Wisconsin Rapids. El Mezcal, is the exception. Very good service and food!

I eat at El Mezcal in Rapids and Marshfield a lot. I was surprised, therefore, when I ordered a favorite, Shrimp Enchiladas and found it to be somewhat disappointing. The enchilada gravy was very thin, watery and bland. The shrimp were not grilled and the tomato was missing. Otherwise, great salsa as usual. I think I'll stick to the Rapids location.

This would not pass for a good Mexican food restaurant in Texas. The Queso is 4/5 stars, but... The hot sauce was not very spicy at all. The extra spicy sauce that we asked for was spicy but bland. The beans and rice were super bland. The beef taco is a 3/5 stars. The Enchiladas were pretty good... Maybe 3/5 stars.

A Point Favorite. Chips and salsa arrive at the table immediately. Don't forget to try their hot salsa and salsa verde. I order from the Vegetarian menu. The Chili Relleno's are to die for as are the Veggie Nachos (minus lettuce and sour cream). My better half's favorite is the Burrito El Mezcal with Beef. The service is super fast so if you are starving and need to eat immdiately this is the place to go. The Server's are great and you cannot beat the price. I order a 16oz pico de gallo to take home whenever I stop in. It's delish. I do wish that they would get an outdoor patio, offer breakfast on the weekends and for me to have the ability to save room for the Fried Ice Cream.

El Mezcal was very close to our hotel in Steven's Point. We had driven over to O'so Brewing for a local brew and now were ready to have some dinner. Mexican in Wisconsin, what could be better? This is a pretty typical Mexican family restaurant. The chips were OK with light corn flavor and served warm which was nice. The salsa was mostly pureed tomato and another unidentifiable flavor. It did not have jalapeno or green chile or cilantro, I was not sure what I was tasting. Ms T stayed gringa with a ground beef burrito. The beef was essentially unseasoned. They include a warm, oniony "special" red sauce over the burrito. When the beef is well seasoned, these can be good. This was rather mundane. My huevos con chorizo was on the lunch menu, but they accommodated my request for it at dinner time. I received a large portion, with a good ratio of eggs to chorizo. The chorizo was well flavored and I'm guessing it is something they make themselves or have made locally. It is not like commercial chorizo. The beans and rice were both fine. The beans were creamy and simple. The rice was delicately seasoned as is appropriate for it as a side. I suggest you ask for the spicy red sauce. It had great toasted red chile flavor. It was not really very hot and boasted plenty of garlic. I ate every drop of it on my eggs and beans. Over all it was "A-OK".

My husband and I went here for dinner and the food was really good and you got just enough food to fill you up, not enough to take home for left overs though. The workers were not very friendly or welcoming and the atmosphere was not as neat as other Mexican restaurants. We both got are own meals and a frozen daiquiri and our bill was like 30.00 bucks so not that pricy.

Stopped at El Mezcal on our way through Stevens Point. It was decent, but have had better in the area. We all ordered quesadilla's, 2 with cheese and I had the fajita selection. They were pretty greasy and fell apart easy, I had to finish mine with a fork and scoop it off the plate. They charge for an extra bowl of chips, which we've never heard of before. The cheese sauce we got to go with it was very runny and not real flavorful - tasted like it was from a jar. The building was pretty basic and had a little flare - the staff was great and very nice. Overall, it was OK at best. I've had worse..........

Fantastic food! I've never had a bad experience here. Their chips and salsa are really yummy. The service is always super quick and the servers are friendly. They also have a bunch of different flavors of margaritas, I've tried them all and I can't find a negative about any of them. Overall, a great restaurant and I always look forward to coming here!

The service was good. The food, not so much. Everything was watered down and bland. Taco Bell has better Mexican. Will NOT go back or recommend to anyone. The hostess wasn't concerned or apologetic when told that the food was bad. The beer was cold and good.

They seriously charge $2 for extra chips and salsa! This place used to be good. We were here on a Monday at 4pm, there were only three tables and the service was terrible, really terrible. They could have cared less that we were there or that we would have liked our drinks refilled. The wait staff spent a lot of time laughing and carrying on very loudly (instead of checking back with us or refling our drinks) The food tasted fine. I will not be returning.

Great food, prices and the staff is extremely friendly, located on the East side of Stevens Point close to the soccer Fields and hockey arena. This eatery is very family friendly. Check it out! (Good menu)

Does not come close to having authentic Tex-mex quality. Very bland straight out of the jar salsa. The quacamole was more like green sour cream straight out of the dip section at Walmart. The refried beans were runny. The enchaladas had a bland brown watery sause on them. The server that fixed my drink argued with me when I told him his concoction did`nt come close to the drink I ordered. Real opportunity to bring good quality Tex-mex to Stevens Point and they are failing big time!

El Mez is the popular Mexican restaurant in town. They have delicious chicken chimichangas with this white cheese they melt on top of it... So good! Another favorite is the taco salad. Wash it down with a margarita and go on Tuesdays or Thursdays for their drink promotion. Birthdays earn you a free shot of tequila.

I was in the mood for something different so I checked YELP, and I found this place. Not bad at all the food was tasty and more than I could eat. The price was within reason for what you get. Would I come back, YES

Positives: - Walking distance from the Holiday Inn - Fast Service - Quickly accommodated our group of 20 -Different flavors of Margaritas- the group seemed to enjoy Mango the most :-) So-So -The food was average Mexican food. I got the Veggie Fajitas and while it didn't blow my socks off, it was decent good Mexican food. Huge Portion!

The only other post for Mezcal speaks the truth... This place is as good or better than any Mexican restaurant found in the city. Among places to eat in Stevens Point, this is my number 1. Sorry Christian's. Its cheap and authentic. The guac is awesome. Amazing. I think they have good margarita speicals, too. stay in business!

Our family visited at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 3. We were seated quickly and given a basket of chips and salsa. We had nearly finished the chips by the time a waiter came to our table. We ordered a diet soda. iced tea, water, and three of the combination dinners; 3,4, &11. It was another few minutes before we finally had something to drink. The dinner, when it arrived, was warm but bland. The beef in both my burrito and enchilada was a purée. The sides, mexican rice and refried beams w/ cheese topping, were overcooked. Our waiter was equally as lifeless. The total price of the meal was reasonable and the seating area was comfortable. The cashier kindly took a check even when a sign indicated "No Checks." While certainly better than a Taco Bell (of which there are three in the area) this restaurant scores firmly in my "Meh" classification. Specifically, OK but hardly memorable.

Cheap food, and pretty decent, huge portions. I would definitely go here again. However, the service was lacking. Our server was kind of a jerk, and the rest of the staff didn't seem much more polite.

In any larger city, this restaurant would be incredible- in Stevens Point, where good ethnic restaurants are few and far between, it is the best of the best. The service is fast, the food is inexpensive, and the restaurant is bright and cheerful. The food, though, is what keeps people coming back- filling and flavorful with a quality that I have never seen in a Mexican restaurant. Despite it's location in a strip mall, it is clear that the owners and cooks care about their customers and menu.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
